Opportunity: 2020 Michael and Deborah Thawley Scholarship
Hi! I have stumbled upon a new opportunity for my wonderful readers!
Applications are open for the 2020 Michael and Deborah Thawley Scholarship, which will cover the contribution of one individual to the work of Lowy Institute and the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS). The successful applicant has to be an Australian official, officer, student or recent graduate.
The selected individual is going to work at the Lowy Institute in Sydney for a short period of time before spending 8-12 weeks at the premises of CSIS in Washington, DC.
Although there is flexibility in research topics regarding the work that will be done for Lowy Institute, the area of focus for the successful applicant will be the regional and geopolitical dimensions of Australia’s strategic interests. Furthermore, the selected individual is expected to contribute to Lowy Institute’s digital magazine “The Interpreters”.
During their time at CSIS, the successful applicant will have the opportunity to gain an insight into into US debates on global strategic challenges and policy responses, which will include opportunities of interaction with the American foreign policy system, meeting with high-level policymakers and commentators and applying the knowledge they acquired in their professional sphere upon their return to Australia.
The opportunity includes an A$5000 award, while for the Washington placement, flights, visa costs, and a small travel allowance will be covered. Domestic travel and partial living costs for the Sydney placement will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The deadline for application is 17 April 2020, so hurry!
